CARSON – Looking for the win, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team took two great looks but just missed the bucket in dropping a 71-69 heartbreaker to Cal Poly Humboldt on Star Wars Night Thursday.
After Humboldt's Marlon Ruffin missed both free throws with 12 seconds left, the Toros were given the last opportunity to either tie the game or get the win.
DJ Guest made the first attempt that hit the rim but was recovered by the Toros.
Isaiah Morris made a second try and missed to close out the game.
The Toros (2-4, 0-2 CCAA) had to play catch-up for nearly 35 minutes and had trailed by as many as 14 points early into the second half. The Toros would go on to outscore the Lumberjacks (3-4, 2-0 CCAA) for the rest of the second half.
Cameron Barry led the effort for the Toros with 16 points and
Jordan Hilstock finished with 15.
DJ Guest ended the night with a double-double, dropping 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Dominguez Hills finished the night shooting 37 percent.
The Toros continues the homestand Saturday with Sonoma State visiting at 3 p.m.
