SAN BERNARDINO –
D'Mauria Jones scored 21 points and
Colten Kresl had 20 but the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team ran out of time to erase a 15-point deficit as third-ranked Cal State San Bernardino escaped with a 74-71 result at Coussoulis Arena Saturday evening.
Trailing by 15 with 6:09 remaining in the second half, Dominguez Hills ignited an 18-4 rally the rest of the way. The Toros got to within two when
Jordan Hilstock hit a jumper with 44 seconds left. After the Yotes got a free throw to make it the 74-71 score, the Toros got the final possession. Jones pushed in for a layup but missed,
DJ Guest got the rebound to try attempt the put-back but missed at the buzzer.
The loss drops the Toros to 9-8 overall and 6-5 in the CCAA as the conference season turns to the final month with eight games to go.
San Bernardino benefited from the free throw line to keep them in the game, going 24-for-41. The Toros, meanwhile, had a 12-for-16 result on the line.
The Toros and Yotes (16-1, 10-1 CCAA) went neck-and-neck for a majority of the game, with San Bernardino taking a 36-36 lead at halftime. A 7-0 San Bernardino run gave it the largest gap in the game up until the Toros got to within two with 44 seconds left.
