POMONA –
Chris Seeley scored 14 points but etched himself into Cal State Dominguez Hills' men's basketball record book with eight steals to tie the program's 25-year-old record as the Toros tamed Cal Poly Pomona 68-59 at Kellogg Arena Thursday night to complete the series sweep for the first time in 14 years.
The senior Seeley's eight takeaways tied Myke White's record he set against San Diego Christian on January 29, 1997. In addition, the last time the Toros had taken both meetings over the Broncos was 2008.
After trailing 32-30 at intermission, Dominguez Hills got on a 15-0 run in the second half to take a 47-38 lead with 12:39 to go. The Toros then kept the gap to no less than five points the rest of the way.
The win quickly erased a difficult loss to the rebranded Cal Poly Humboldt and improve to 9-7 overall, 6-4 in the CCAA.
Dominguez Hills ended the night hitting 45.5 percent of its shots. Not far behind Seeley in the scoring column were
Jordan Hilstock with 12 points and
Colten Kresl with 11.
The Toros will be seeking revenge as they head to Cal State San Bernardino to take on the now-third-ranked Yotes on Saturday. Tipoff is at 3 p.m.
The Yotes snuck away with a game-winning overtime win at the buzzer in Carson last December.
CSUSB will be limiting spectators to guests of student-athletes, which is four per NCAA policy. Guests must read the
COVID-19 spectator policy for important information before entering Coussoulis Arena.
As always, the game will be available live on the CCAA Network.
