De Baldo, Toros Settle with 1-1 Draw at Monterey Bay

SEASIDE – Although this match unofficially kicked off California Collegiate Athletic Association men's soccer play, Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Monterey Bay made their non-conference match look like battle of titans as the two sides left the Otter Sports Complex with a 1-1 draw Saturday evening.

Both the Toros (2-1-1, 0-0-0 CCAA) and Otters (4-0-2, 0-0-0 CCAA) combined for 30 shots, 20 on goal, and 31 fouls.

Dominguez Hills broke the ice in the 73rd minute. Alpha Sowe made a front pass to Alberto Carrillo on the left side who made a beautiful cross to Michael McKibbin inside the box, who made a two-touch slot past Otter goalkeeper Adrian Muñoz for the goal.

The Toros had to play short-handed when a red card was issued against them. They were 2:50 away from victory when a cross into the box from the upper left corner found the foot of Marcus Decouto, who one-touched the shot into the goal to tie the game.

Dylan De Baldo made two critical saves from that point on. One came in the 89th minute when a De Baldo made a diving save on a Decouto header off a free kick to keep it a tie match.

The second save was into the second overtime period, when De Baldo was forced into a 1-v-1 matchup with Pedro Hernandez. De Baldo just got a leg on the shot to stop and trap it.

The two sides will go 'on the record' next time in Carson on November 4. Until then, the Toros will focus on Cal State East Bay Friday at 4:30 p.m.
