AZUSA –
Nicole Peery and
Bailey Fuches each recorded their third double-double the last four matches, but it wasn't enough as the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team were swept in three sets (13-25, 22-25, 23-25) by Fresno Pacific on the campus of Azusa Pacific to wrap up the SoCal Freeway Classic Saturday night.
The match also completed the non-conference schedule. The Toros will hope the change in their fortunes when they open CCAA play against Sonoma State at home Friday at 4 p.m.
After a sluggish opening round, the Toros put quite a battle in the second and third. In the second battle, Dominguez Hills found itself behind 14-8 but had a 5-1 run to back within two. They were able to tie the match at 22 points apiece but the Sunbirds took three more to win the set.
The Toros were on a good pace to win the third set leading 20-16, but Fresno Pacific won six straight rallies to take a 22-20 lead. Dominguez Hills did win two set-point rallies until the Sunbirds clinched both set and match.
Dominguez Hills altogether, hit .147 throughout the day.
