CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team had to climb out of a 22-point deficit at the start of the game and nearly pulled an upset over No. 12 Cal State San Bernardino, but a 3-point shot at the buzzer in overtime allowed the Yotes to edge the Toros 96-95 at the Torodome Thursday evening.
After trailing the entire regulation, the Toros grabbed their first lead in the game 25 seconds into the extra period and led by as many as seven. A pair of
D'Mauria Jones free throws made it a 95-89 lead with 22 seconds left, but two critical Toro turnovers helped the Yotes reverse the momentum and eventually setup for the win.
A jump ball after an inbound pass resulted a Toro turnover and with 3.8 seconds left, Brandon Knapper hit the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.
The Toros had come a long way since the start of the game. The Yotes established a 20-3 lead 6:30 into the game but the Toros slowly rallied to get to within three (62-59) with 14:27 left. San Bernardino did get back to a double-digit lead, only to see it completely erased by the Toros
Chris Seeley hit a jumper with 28 seconds left to tie the game at 82.
Seely ended the night scoring 27 points and grabbing 16 rebounds while fellow senior
