CARSON – Depth was put to the test by both Cal State Dominguez Hills and UC Irvine's men's basketball teams Friday as the Anteaters beat the Toros 84-59 in the final exhibition game before tipping off the regular season next week.
Twenty-six total players were sent to the hardwood with 11 of them coming from the Dominguez Hills bench.
Chris Seeley led the way dropping 14 points while
Andre Ball had a dozen and
Isaiah Morris had 10.
The Anteaters, who were narrowly edged by UC Santa Barbara by one point as the preseason favorite to win the Big West title, was led by DJ Davis' 15 points.
Dominguez Hills ended up shooting 36 percent from the field with six of its buckets coming from the 3-point line, which was moved to 22, 1 ¾ inches – which is the international level length – during the Toros' absence last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
UC Irvine dominated the glass 45-27.
The Toros, finally, go on the record and open the season next Friday hosting the CCAA/GNAC Challenge at the Torodome, welcoming Humboldt State, Simon Fraser and Western Washington. The 'Jacks and Vikings tip the classic off at 5 p.m. followed by the Toros and the Clan.
