HAYWARD –
Andre Ball scored a career-high 21 points,
Chris Seeley contributed to 17 as the duo led the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team to a 69-62 CCAA season-opening win on the road at Cal State East Bay Saturday, snapping a two-game skid.
With the win, the Toros climb back to .500 for the second time this season, improving to 3-3.
For the second consecutive game, the Toros dominated the rebounding column, beating the Pioneers on the glass 34-25.
With 19 lead changes and six ties, neither side ran away with the lead. The largest lead in the game was seven, which was the 69-62 result.
Isaiah Morris got the final bucket of the first half that propelled the Toros to a 31-30 lead at halftime.
East Bay took a 33-31 lead 14 seconds into the second half and then Ball got the old fashion 3-point play with 19:11 left to give the Toros the lead again. The two sides would trade off leads until the 2:11 mark, when Ball hit a 3-pointer again to give the Toros a 63-61 lead. Dominguez Hills would keep the lead from that point on.
The Toros ended the evening shooting 45 percent from the field, including nine 3-pointers.
Dominguez Hills' road trip in conference play continues in Southern California, when it visits Cal State San Marcos Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Cougars are coming off a 76-65 road win over Cal State LA.
