Kresl Scores 26 Points as Toros Win Second Straight

OAKLAND – Colten Kresl dropped 26 points for his second 20-plus point game in a row as the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team opened the road schedule of their returning 2021-22 season with an 86-82 edging over Holy Names Friday afternoon.

In addition to scoring the 26 points, Kresl contributed to five assists and grabbed four rebounds. Andre Ball scored 17 points and D'Mauria Jones added 14 along with four assists. Hunter Seymour led the effort in the glass by grabbing seven of the Toros' 23 rebounds.

As a team, the Toros shot 59 percent and relied on the 3-point line, making 10 of their 19 attempts from beyond the arc. The Toros also capitalized on the Hawks' turnovers, scoring 20 points off those mistakes. Free throws did hurt Dominguez Hills, going 18-for-29 on the line.

Host Holy Names, still in search of its first win in three games played, shot 49 percent but was kept in the game on the charity stripe, making 28-of-23 free throws. Edward Gray led the effort with 28 points, including a 13-for-14 performance on the free throw line.

The Toros (2-1) had led 89 percent of game, even by as many as 19 points with 5:30 left in the first half. The lead would eventually diminish when Holy Names tied the game at 74 with 3:36 left in the game. Dominguez Hills regained the lead and held on thanks to a 9-of-11 free throw performance.

Dominguez Hills returns to Holy Names' Tobin Gymnasium to play Fresno Pacific Saturday at noon. This will be the second of three straight games against the PacWest Conference before opening CCAA play next week.
