CARSON -- Crosstown rival Cal State L.A. used a business-like .311 hitting percentage compared to just .093 for host Cal State Dominguez Hills to take a 25-13, 25-21, 25-19 sweep over the Cardinal and Gold this afternoon in the Torodome.
The visitors got off to a hot start, connecting on over 40% of their attacks in the 12-point win. Despite posting a -3 in service errors, the Toros posted a -5 in attack errors to negate the would-be advantage.
The Toros played even with Cal State LA through most of the second set, even maintaining a lead into the teens. But the visitors put the clamps on any Toro hopes of a win, scoring the final six points of the frame to take a 2-0 lead.
Set three continued the trend as CSULAÂ posted more kills and fewer attack errors in the 25-19 decision.
Coco Ikpe and
Bailey Fuches shared team-high kill honors with six each, while
Angelina Cabal assisted on 12 putaways.Â
Jenna Sandall (pictured) paced the defense with 10 digs in the loss.
The two schools go at it again tomorrow night in the Eagles Nest, with first serve set for 5 pm.
