Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | By Rick Hoskin

Men's Basketball Gets Their Revenge Against East Bay

CARSON – Four different Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball players scored in double figures that helped the Toros out in a big way. The Toros established a solid lead halfway into the opening period and held on to beat Cal State East Bay 87-82 at the Torodome Thursday evening, avenging a difficult loss in Hayward back in November.

In addition to the win, Dominguez Hills (10-11, 6-9 CCAA) got help up the 710 freeway with Cal State Monterey Bay beating Cal State LA to propel the Toros into a tie for the eighth and final spot to the CCAA Tournament with seven games remaining, including the Otters on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Carson.

Colten Kresl continues to keep his momentum going with a 19-point night. It is the fifth straight game the junior has scored in double figures. Andrew Whitsett dropped in 18 points, Wonder Smith had 16 and Alex Garcia had a dozen to round out the Toros.

It was also perhaps one of the best shooting nights for Dominguez Hills, which went 31-for-60 (51.7 percent) from the field to make it the second straight game the Toros have hit the half-century mark on Dave Yanai Court. It also proved critical to an East Bay team that shot 44 percent (30-for-68) overall.

Rebounding was also a major factor in the game. Led by Kaden Bradley's 10 boards, Dominguez Hills dominated the glass 44-26.

The Pioneers (12-10, 8-8 CCAA) tested the depth of their bench tonight by playing 14 players. Zafir Williams led the effort for East Bay with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

The Toros got a bit of revenge against the Pioneers after the 72-48 blowout in Hayward earlier in the season. Although Dominguez Hills never trailed tonight, it didn't grab a firm lead until halfway through the first half, when back-to-back treys from Nick Kornieck and Smith gave the Toros a 25-14 lead. The Toros would run the score up to as many as 17 and would go into the locker room leading 43-28.

Dominguez Hills has led by as many as 19 early into the second half.
