CARSON – After struggling to find that offensive spark this month, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team found a way to ignite all cylinders and put together an scoring barrage, blowing out a stunned Stanislaus State 88-64 at the Torodome Saturday to sweep the season series with the Warriors and end a four-game losing streak.
It was a strong all-around performance for the Toros (9-9, 5-7 CCAA). They shot 50 percent (32-for-64) while making 15 from the 3-point line while dominating the rebounding column 56 to the Warriors' (11-6, 7-5 CCAA) 23.
Colten Kresl scored 23 points for the second consecutive game to lead the Toros.
Alex Garcia also continues to increase his numbers as he dropped in 20 points, one more than he scored against Humbold State on Thursday.
Andrew Whitsett controlled the glass with 10 rebounds in addition to two blocks and steals.
Here's Kresl following the Toros win over the Warriors:
It was a cold day for Stan State, which shot 37.3 percent from the field overall, 25 percent (8-for-32) in the first half. Darius Scott, who scored eight points in the last meeting in Turlock back in November, scored a team-most 15 points today.
Although the Warriors (11-6, 7-5 CCAA) got the game's first basket less than two minutes into the game, the Toros took complete control of the game by going on a 27-4 run in 10 minutes to take a 27-6 lead with seven minutes left in the first half. Dominguez Hills went 9-for-17 with four 3-pointers during the run while Stan State shot a cold 2-for-17 around the perimeter.
The Toros shot 45.5 percent (15-for-33) in the first half to take a 44-20 lead into intermission. They would go on to lead by as many as 40 twelve minutes into the second period.
While the spring semester begins Tuesday on the Dominguez Hills campus, it will be the only day the Toros can attend classes since they will hit the road to Chico State Thursday for the only game of the week. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
The Wildcats stunned the Toros in the second half back in the Torodome earlier this month.
