HAYWARD – The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team had two different tales offensively against Cal State East Bay Saturday.
Pierson Loska seemed to have found his groove back by belting his 13
th and 14
th home runs of the season to lead the Toros to a 17-2 smash in game one. But the offense went silent in game two despite a brilliant pitching effort by
Ian Codina as the Pioneers snuck away with game two 1-0.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- Shortly after the Pioneers responded in the first inning which gave them a 2-1 lead, the Toros answered back in the second with three runs. Gomez and
Jose Jimenez traded outs for two runs and a fielding error by East Bay added another run to give Dominguez Hills a 4-3 lead.
- All the damage was done in the third inning.
Bailey Bordas and Gomez both hit RBI singles and Loska hit a grand slam to build a 10-2 Toro lead.
- The Toros got their 11
th run in the fourth inning, when Ryan hit a sacrifice fly to score in
Domenic Colacchio.
- Dominguez Hills added six more runs in the eighth. Ryan
Kaelan Crisosto and Ryan doubled to score in two runs,
Justin Morris, who came in as a defensive substitution in the sixth, hit an RBI single and Loska crushed a three-run homer to left to give the Toros a 17-2 lead.
- Pingel also had a rebound from his last outing, giving up the two runs in the first inning and settling down and tossing shutout innings until the bullpen took over in the seventh.
Ricardo Serrano and
Evan Gravenmier combined for three shutout innings of relief.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Loska hit his third multi-home run game this season. The other two were at Cal State San Marcos and at home against Sonoma State.
- Loska also driven in seven runs for the first time since he broke the school's single-game RBI record nine against Sonoma State.
- It the second most runs the Toros have scored in a game this season, the most being 20 at Cal State LA last month.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- After putting together an 18-hit barrage in the first game, the Toros bats would go quiet in the second game. It was only the fifth inning Dominguez Hills had a runner in scoring position.
Aaron Greenfield drew a two-out walk and Gomez followed with a single but the two were stranded.
- Codina, making his second career start as a Toro, went the distance for the first time. In addition to pitching a complete game, he held the Pioneers to one run one five hits and no walks.
