Garnett Fans Five in Series-Opening Loss to Stan State

TURLOCK – Tristan Garnett struck out five in 6.2 innings pitched, Pierson Loska and Aaron Greenfield each had a run batted in but it was not enough as Cal State Dominguez Hills fell 4-2 to Stanislaus State in two hours of play to open the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series Thursday.

TOP PERFORMERS

Jeremy Ciolek – 2-for-4, 2B
Kai Gomez – 1-for-4, 2B

WHAT HAPPENED?
- It started out a pitching duel for the first several innings; but it was until the third inning when the Warriors (24-17, 20-15 CCAA) broke the ice in the third inning. Jayce Gardner led off with a single and eventually scored on a double by Braeden Oki.
- After the Warriors added two more runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead, the Toros (14-25, 13-24 CCAA) got on the board in the fifth. Ciolek led off with a single up the middle and back-to-back base hits from Domenic Colacchio and Greenfield brought in the first run.
- The same repeated the next inning. Kai Gomez led off with a double to the right center wall and scored when Loska hit a hard line drive up the middle. Joe Canepa came up a foot short from tying the game when his high fly ball to right was caught at the wall with no room to spare.
- Gomez made a key play in the sixth in the outfield, making a diving catch in left center to prevent Grant Victor from hitting for extra bases.
- The Warriors arms were solid tonight. Starter Chase Wheatcroft went seven innings with four strikeouts while Matt Pulos tossed two shutout innings of relief for his seventh save.
- Ricardo Serrano pitched a shutout eighth to keep the deficit by two.
