Gomez Gets Three Hits off Chico's Ace; Toros Fall in Series Finale

CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball quickly fell behind in the first inning and never quite recovered in a 9-1 series-ending loss to Chico State at Toro Field Sunday afternoon.

TOP PERFORMERS
Kai Gomez – 3-for-3, SB
Humberto Chiquito – ND, 4 IP, 1 SO, 2 H, 0 R

WHAT HAPPENED?
- The Wildcats (19-15, 15-14 CCAA), fighting to save their season after a horrendous start to conference play, wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning, plating four of the five runs off of starter Jesse Villalobos. Spencer Hereford came in to stop the slugfest and did so allowing an inherited runner to score.
- Kai Gomez was the only Toro (14-24, 13-23 CCAA) in the lineup to figure out the Wildcats' ace Andrew Lopez, recording all three hits. Lopez, who entered the game with a 1.85 ERA, was stellar on the mound against the Toros, throwing seven shutout innings with six strikeouts on 105 pitches.
- Humberto Chiquito was the most efficient pitcher today, throwing four shutout innings of relief. He hasn't allowed an earned run in the last six innings (three games) he's thrown.
- The Toros scored their lone run in the eighth. Kaelan Crisosto was hit by a pitch to lead the inning off and eventually score on a one-out ground-out to third base.

UP NEXT?
The Toros hit the road one last time, visiting Turlock to play Stanislaus State in a rare Thursday-Saturday matchup. Thursday's series opener begins under the lights at 6 p.m.
