Colacchio Drives in Four to Lead Toros to Series-Opening Win Over 'Cats

CARSON – Domenic Colacchio drove in four of 10 RBIs to back starter Tristan Garnett's seven-inning outing as the duo led Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 10-2 series-opening win over a cooled-down Chico State at Toro Field Friday.

TOP PERFORMERS
Domenic Colacchio – 2-for-4, 4 RBI (season-high)
Pierson Loska – 3-for-4, 2 2B, RBI
Tristan Garnett – WP, 7 IP, 4 SO, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 H

WHAT HAPPENED?
- The Toros (13-22, 12-21 CCAA) did all the damage in four of the first five innings. In the first inning, Loska doubled to move him and Jose Jimenez into scoring position and Colacchio brought them in with a two-out single to left. Even though Chico State (17-14, 13-13 CCAA) responded with a run in the second inning, Dominguez Hills added two more in the third. Loska doubled again and Jeremy Ciolek drew a four-pitch walk. Colacchio singled again to score Loska. Chico starter Grant Larsen's day continued to be worse when he walked both Grant Decatrel and Kaelan Crisosto to force in Ciolek and give Dominguez Hills a 4-1 lead.
- The Toros would put the game out of the Wildcats reach with a four-run fourth inning. Even though Aaron Greenfield led the inning off with a single and stole second, he eventually was forced in when Colacchio drew a bases-loaded walk to earn his fourth RBI of the day. Decatrel followed with a two-run single and Crisosto's base hit to left bumped CSUDH's score to 8-2.
- Garnett seems to have found his pitching groove as it is the second consecutive start the sophomore has thrown seven innings. He gave up two earned runs for the first time since Cal State San Marcos on February 22.
- Ricardo Serrano went the rest of the way tossing a three-hit shutout performance.
