WHAT HAPPENED?
- It was a career day for Gomez, who matched his personal-best three hits but recorded two doubles.
-
Tristan Garnett had an unusual rough outing on the mound. He lasted only two innings having thrown 72 pitches and gave up eight runs, one unearned, on eight hits and four walks.
Evan Gravenmier and
Jesse Galindo combined for 5.2 innings of relief, with each giving up two earned runs.
Spencer Hereford had an effective outing with 1.1 shutout innings of work.
- The Otters eventually built a 10-1 lead by the third inning.
- Dominguez Hills got into its offensive rhythm in the third. Gomez led off with a double to left center, Jimenez and
Pierson Loska each got on base without recording a hit.
Joe Canepa got Gomez home on a sacrifice fly, Jimenez scored on a balk, Colacchio and
Grant Decatrel each drove in a run with a single.
- The Toros had a hard-hitting effort trying plate runs in the fifth. With Decatrel on first, Crisosto took a pitch that came up inches from going over the fence to settle with a long double. After
Angel Estrada was robbed of a hard liner by the first baseman for the second out, Gomez picked him up with a two-run double to left center field, cutting the Otters lead to 10-7.
Jose Jimenez kept the inning going with a fly ball that was nearly caught by a diving right fielder to drive in Gomez from second and make it a 2-run gap.
- The Toros got to within one in the seventh inning. Estrada hit a one-out triple that scored in
Kaelan Crisosto from first. Gomez hit a groundout that was good enough to plate Estrada and cut the Otters lead to 11-10.
