Loska Slugs in 9 RBI to Break 29-Year-Old Record in Doubleheader Win

CARSON – Pierson Loska slugged in nine RBI in game one to break Cal State Dominguez Hills' 29-year-old single-game record as the Toros took two more California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) wins from Sonoma State Saturday.

The Toros rallied from an eight-run deficit to win the first contest 14-12 and managed to beat both the Seawolves and the sunset 11-5 with merely minutes left of daylight.

GAME 1: CSUDH 14, SSU 12
TOP PERFORMERS
Pierson Loska – 4-for-5, 9 RBI (School Record), 2 HR, 2B
Jose Jimenez – 5-for-5, RBI, 4 R
Jesse Galindo – WP, 3 IP, 1 SO, 0 R, 2 H

WHAT HAPPENED?
- The Toros had to dig themselves out of a hole from earlier. The Seawolves took a 5-0 lead in the second and added five more in the fourth to take a 10-2 lead.
- The sixth-inning barrage began rather quickly. Sonoma's Mickael Byerline entered the game in relief and loaded the bases on Jake Ryan's single and hitting Kai Gomez and Jose Jimenez to load the bases. Loska punished the pitcher by hitting a grand slam to left center to slice the lead to four. After Joe Canepa reached on an error to end Bylerline's day, Domenic Colacchio and Eduardo Frayre-Cerda kept the line moving with back-to-back singles off of Andrew Trahan. Bailey Bordas hit a single and Ryan hit a sac fly in his second at-bat of the inning to make it a two-run gap. With two outs, Gomez and Jimenez followed with another pair of hits and Loska's second home run in the inning put the Toros ahead 13-10 and completing the 11-run rally.
- The slugfest eventually continued into the top of the eighth inning when Sonoma traded two outs for a pair of runs and make it a 13-12 Toro lead.
- Dominguez Hills did collect an insurance policy in their half of the eighth when Loska hit a double to left field to break the school record with his ninth RBI.

POSTGAME NOTES
- Loska's 9-RBI game sets a new school, breaking Mike Gabbani's eight set against Alliant International on April 3, 1990.

GAME 2 – CSUDH 11, SSU 5
TOP PERFORMERS
Jose Jimenez – 3-for-3, 2B, 4 R
Joe Canepa – 3-for-3, HR, 2B, 4 RBI
Domenic Colacchio – 3-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI
Drake Pingel – WP, 4 IP, 0 ER, 3 SO
Ricardo Serrano – SV, 3 IP, 1 ER, 2 SO

WHAT HAPPENED?
- Unlike game one, the Toros grabbed an early lead and never looked back. As soon as Dominguez Hills got its hands on the bat, Jimenez and Canepa each singled to setup for Colacchio's two-run double to left.
- All the damage was done in the third inning. Jimenez led off with a single and Canepa blasted a pitch to the parking lot in right field to start the inning off, it was followed by three straight singles by Colacchio, Frayre-Cerda and Grant Decatrel to drive in one run and a squeeze play by Kaelan Crisosto was enough drive in the game's sixth run.
- Pingel made it through four innings striking out three but surrendered four unearned runs in the fourth. Ricardo Serrano rebounded from a tough outing Friday by going the rest of the way allowing one run for his first save as a Toro.
