Toros Halt Saint Martin's Rally in the Seventh to Take Desert Stinger Win

LAS VEGAS – The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team slugged in seven runs in the first three innings and had to hold off Saint Martin's rally in the seventh to preserve a 7-5 win on the final day of the Desert Stinger Sunday afternoon.

The win comes after having to miss two games on Saturday due to rain and unplayable conditions at Majestic Park. The Toros return to the Golden State with a 2-1 record.

TOP PERFORMERS
Damari Simon – 2-for-4, HR, SB
Lyzette Reveles – 2-for-2, HR
Ashley Wies – WP (1-0), 6.1 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 2 SO
Alyssa Olague – SV (1), 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB

WHAT HAPPENED?
- The Toros had struck first in their half of the opening inning. Simon hit a one-out single, stole second and scored on Canizales' RBI single to right.
- Dominguez Hills did most of the damage in the third inning. Simon led off with a towering home run to left center. Rachael Sandoval, Canizales and Jazmin Guzman each reach to load the bases for Reveles, who cleared them with a base hit to right field but was tagged out at second in the process.
- Simon came close to closing the game via mercy rule in the fourth inning, when her fly ball to the same location as her home run in the third was caught on the warning track.
- After the Toros missed two opportunities to put the game away early, the Saints took advantage of the second life by putting five runs on the board in the seventh. Olague came in with one out with two runners in scoring position. She gave up two runs in the process but managed to get the final out on a pop up to Guzman at second.

POSTGAME NOTES
- The Toros improve to 19-13 at the Desert Stinger.
