CARSON - The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team fell in its final non-conference matchup of the season by a final score of 75-64, Saturday at the Torodome. The Toros had a 40-31 lead at halftime, but were outscored by 16 points in the second half.
Â
The Toros (4-4) were led by senior
Jasmine Phoolka's 15 points. Fellow senior
Alzena Henry pitched in 14. Both Phoolka and Henry nearly came away with double-doubles with nine rebounds each. It was the second meeting between the two schools this year, as the Eagles (4-2) were able to avenge their Nov. 9 loss to CSUDH.
Â
Biola got the first two buckets of the game, before the Toros scored 11 straight points, capped off by a Phoolka jumper, to lead by seven. CSUDH used the momentum to grab its biggest lead of the contest, 18-6, with two minutes remaining in the opening period. The Toros had a 23-12 advantage after 10 minutes of play. The two teams went back-and-forth for much of the second as CSUDH took a nine-point lead into halftime, 40-31.
Â
The Eagles put the clamps on the Toros in the second half, limiting them to just 24 points, including 10 in the third period. Biola scored 20 points in the third quarter to take a 51-50 lead into the final period. CSUDH did take a one-point lead, 59-58, on a Henry layup with 6:30 left, but the Eagles closed the game on a 17-5 run from there to prevail by 11 points.
Â
The Toros will return to conference play when they travel to and face Cal State East Bay on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m.
