Wonder Smith scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team to an 82-72 victory over Stanislaus State Saturday night.
The result gave the Warriors their first loss of the season and for the Toros, winner of four straight, their first a win at Fitzpatrick Arena in six years.
On a rare off night for the Toros' leading scorer
Colten Kresl, which he scored seven points, he was backed by his fellow starters.
Alex Garcia dropped in 19 points,
Kaden Bradley had 11 and
Andrew Whitsett had 10.
The Toros (4-2, 2-0 CCAA) hit 52.7 percent of their field goals while making a dozen of those shots from beyond the arc.
After given no free throw opportunities in the first half, the Toros went 12-for-14 in the second.
The Warriors (4-1, 1-1 CCAA), who opened their home schedule against the Toros, saw four individuals reach double digits in points, with Vida Faniel and Xavier Francois combining for 33.
Dominguez Hills also won the rebounding column again 27-25 despite grabbing below their average.
The first half saw both sides see-saw with the lead up until the three-minute mark, when the Toros went on a 12-6 run to move ahead 46-38 going into intermission.
While the Toros had never trailed in the second period, the Warriors did tie the game at 62 at the halfway point. CSUDH got back in front with Garcia scoring five points and Whitsett contributing two free throws to give the Toros a 69-62 lead.
The last time the Toros had won in Turlock was on February 23, 2013, whey they beat the Warriors 63-54 behind Lamine Diame's 16 points and 15 boards.
