Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Toros Triumphant at Monterey Bay

SEASIDE - Cal State Dominguez Hills scored early and held on for a 1-0 shutout victory over Cal State Monterey Bay in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women's soccer matchup, Sunday Otter Soccer Complex.

"It was a great win for the program, (we) played with toughness and energy for 90 minutes," said head coach Marine Cano. "They all did their jobs defensively, and created good opportunities to score goals, but Monterey Bay played very hard and smart. It was a battle until the very end."

CSUDH (5-7-2, 3-4-1 CCAA) scored the lone goal of the game in the 24th minute. Junior Haley McDevitt sent a ball from the back line to junior Holly Kaemerle playing up front on top of the box. Kaemerle brought the ball down, flicked the ball over one defender, spun past another and sent a right-footed laser into the lower-left corner under the outstretched arms of Otter goalkeeper Alyson Schade.

CSUMB (8-5-1, 3-5 CCAA) and the Toros were even on shots, 4-4. Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Newsom recorded her first shutout of her career and compiled two saves.

The Toros will host UC San Diego on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 4:30 p.m. for their next match.

Toro Notes: Newsom, Sara Kattainen, Vanessa Campos, Kelly Almazan, Haley McDevitt and Kekoa Nelson played all 90 minutes on the field … McDevitt recorded her first assist of the season … Kaemerle now has six goals on the year and 10 in her career.
