Golden Eagles Get Even With Toros on Homecoming Day

CARSON – The last time the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team squared off with crosstown rivals Cal State LA, it snuck away with a come-from-behind win last month in Los Angeles. The Golden Eagles returned the favor Saturday by putting a 77-57 result over a flat Toros team on Homecoming Day at the Torodome.

The loss snaps the Toros' two-game win streak and dips the overall record to 9-8 overall and 7-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Golden Eagles, who split the season series, improve to 11-8 overall, 7-6 in the league.

WHAT HAPPENED?
- It was a rough day for the Toros as they ended the day having shot 39 percent (19-for-49) from the field and 3-for-18 from the 3-point line. The Golden Eagles finished shooting 23-for-54 (42.6 percent) and had a dozen 3's.
- Turnovers hurt the Dominguez Hills as the Toros conceded 22 and the Golden Eagles scored 25 points off them.
- The Toros did erase an eight-point deficit and used a 9-0 run to move up front 17-16 for their only lead in the game. The Golden Eagles retook the lead 1:22 later and never looked back.
- Despite the defeat, Dominguez Hills did win the rebounding 37-33.

WHO'S NEXT?
The Toros make a return trip to the Bay Area this week, visiting Sonoma State Thursday at 7:30 p.m. followed by San Francisco State Saturday at 3 p.m. The Toros beat both NorCal schools in Carson earlier this month.
