Toros Get Even With Otters; Keep Pace with CCAA Championship Race

SEASIDE – Malcolm Johnson scored 24 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds for his team-leading ninth double-double of the season to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills' men's basketball team to a 79-71 win over host Cal State Monterey Bay Friday night.

The win gives the Toros (11-14) three straight and improves them to 8-10 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), taking sole possession for the eighth and final spot to the conference tournament over idle Sonoma State with four games remaining.

Dominguez Hills' win also splits the season meeting with the Otters (4-19, 3-16 CCAA)

The freshman Johnson got his 24 points on nine field goals and a perfect 6-for-6 in free throws. He also got two assists and blocks each.

Khalil Bedart-Ghani was also a big contributor to both sides of the floor with 15 points and 11 boards, Deondre Otis finished with 14 points and five assists.

The Toros hit 43.7 percent of their field goals and out-rebounded the Otters 44-39.

After scoring 20 points in the last meeting at the Torodome last November, Jahvon Johnson was held to nine points tonight. Josh Kollman led the effort for Monterey Bay with 18 points.

CSUDH had led from start to finish. It all started 12-3 run within the first five minutes. It had led by as many as 16 in the second half.

The Toros will make a visit to Cal State East Bay Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Pioneers stole the CCAA season-opener from the Toros with a 70-57 win at the Torodome in November.
