HAYWARD – Freshman
Malcolm Johnson recorded 11 points and rebounds each for his third straight double-double and his team-leading 10
th overall but it wasn't enough as the Cal State Dominguez Hills had a cold shooting night in a 59-45 loss to Cal State East Bay Saturday night.
Despite the loss, CSUDH (11-15, 8-11 CCAA) got a little help on the other side of the bay with San Francisco State defeating Sonoma State, keeping the Toros ahead of the Seawolves in the final spot to the CCAA Championship by a half of a game with three games to go.
The Toros couldn't find the bucket throughout the night, shooting 23 percent from the field. The Pioneers (9-17, 5-15 CCAA) hit 38 percent. Both teams went 12-for-15 on the free throw line.
East Bay had maintained the lead for nearly the entire game. It had led by as many as 25 just past the halfway point of the second half.
The Toros will have a chance to make up ground in the home finale against sixth-place Stanislaus State Saturday. Before the 7:30 p.m. tipoff, the Toros will honor their senior class who will be playing their final game at the Torodome.
