Men's Basketball Falls to Cal State San Marcos in Regular-Season Finale

SAN MARCOS – Four Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball players scored 10-plus points but the Toros couldn't stop a hot-shooting Cal State San Marcos in a 93-78 defeat at the Sports Center Saturday night.

The Toros finish the regular season 13-16 overall and 10-12 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. They will settle with the eighth seed to the CCAA Tournament. Dominguez Hills' road to a conference championship will have to be won on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona. The quarterfinals begin with the host Broncos Tuesday. Tipoff is to be announced later.

Jonathan Nichols scored 16 points, fellow senior Deondre Otis added 14 and freshmen Colten Kresl and Malcolm Johnson both had 10. Johnson also grabbed 10 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season.

The Cougars (20-8, 15-7 CCAA), who will be making their first ever CCAA Tournament appearance, never cooled down throughout the night, shooting 53.1 percent. Dalton Soffer had 22 points off the bench to lead a group of four individuals who reached double figures.

Dominguez Hills could never find a rhythm for a majority of the game. Trailing by 22, the Toros did outscore Cougars 20-10 within the final eight minutes to bring the deficit to 15.

The Toros went into intermission trailing 51-41.
