Heins Comes Up Short From Personal Record in Toros Win

LACEY, Wash. – Less than 24 hours after setting a new career record in service aces, senior Bridget Heins recorded 17 kills Friday and was one short from matching her personal best in the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team's three-game sweep (25-23, 25-22, 25-13) over Montana State Billings in day two of the D2 West Region Showcase on the Saint Martin's campus.

The Toros improve to 4-2 overall, with two of those wins coming against teams from the California Collegiate Athletic Association's regional rival Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

It was a well-balanced defensive effort by the Toros with all 10 participants reaching for a dig throughout the match. Briana Boyd and Tati Yandall led the effort in that column with nine each.

Rylee Kiger dished out 37 assists despite making three mistakes.

It was a game of cat-and-mouse for the Toros in the first two games. After tying the Yellowjackets (3-3) 21 apiece, the Toros outscored them 5-2 to take the first game 25-23.

The Toros capitalized on a six-point momentum late to take a 24-22 in the second round. After three errors, the Toros did get the game point on a Claire Autry kill.

CSUDH had dominated the third set. It started with a 7-2 lead and never looked back from that point on.

Two matches will be on Saturday's agenda with Point Loma at 1 p.m. followed by the host Saints at 7:30 p.m.
