CARSON – After a sluggish first start that saw a combined 43 points scored, the Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball teams came out of the locker room and put together 105 in the second half. However, an early deficit put the Toros behind in a 77-71 loss to the Broncos at the Torodome Thursday night.
The Toros fall to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
The hot Broncos (7-1, 4-0 CCAA) came to Carson not only having won five straight but entered the week with the best field goal defensive percentage at 59.3. The Toros finished the night hitting 20 of 53 field goals for a 37.7 percentage.
Five different Toros had reached double figures in points.
Jonathan Nichols led the effort with 14,
Mikey Hatfield and Deshay Gipson both had 13,
Malcolm Johnson finished with 11 and
Gabriel Hicks scored 10.
Despite the result, the Toros had a 41-38 advantage in rebounding. Nichols had 10.
The Toros return home for a rare Sunday matchup against Cal State San Marcos. Tipoff is after the women's game at 7:30 p.m.
