Alumni Outdueled by 2017 Baseball Squad in Annual Alumni Game

CARSON -- Led by two hits apiece by Daryl Donerson, Stephen Kish and Shawn Sweeney and 4.0 shutout innings by starter Nick Suniga, the 2017 edition of the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team took a 7-0 decision over Toro alumni in the annual Robert L. Wing Memorial Alumni Game, held on a sunny Saturday afternoon on Toro Field.

Fifteen former Toro players made an appearance in today's contest for the alumni in Jerit Coleman, Martin Conde, current Toro assistant coach Brady Conlan, Anthony Cortes, Albert Flores, Josh Flores, Fernando Gallegos, Jeffrey Gilstrap, current Toro assistant coach Jeffrey Gogue, Kevin Lenik, Brian Nostaja, Bubby Rossman, Lester Salcedo, Matt Young and Shane Youngdale, as well as former CSUDH baseball head coach and current CSUDH Intramural Director George Wing, who served as honorary head coach in the contest named after his late father.

Donerson, Kish and Sweeney all went 2-for-2, with Donerson stroking a triple in the eighth and scoring thrice.  Kish also knocked a triple as a 7th-inning replacement, earning a hit in both his at-bats, with Sweeney knocking a single and double and scoring twice.

Suniga allowed four hits in four innings of work, fanning five alums in the process.

The Toros kick off their 2017 season on the road next weekend at Holy Names for a four-game set, before a home-and-away series against soon-to-be Division I Cal Baptist begins in Riverside on February 9. 

CSUDH kicks off its home schedule on February 10, with first pitch set for 2 pm on Toro Field.
