Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Golson Scores 25 Again But No. 23 Chico State Holds Off Toros Rally

CHICO — Trailing by 10 with under five minutes remaining, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team used five consecutive 3's in the span of 2:33 minutes to cut the deficit within four, but 23rd-ranked Chico State took the benefit of the charity stripe to prevent an upset and defeat the Toros 77-70 at Acker Gymnasium Saturday night.

CSUDH (8-6, 4-4 CCAA) had gone cold for nearly half of the second half but picked it up within the final nine minutes. The momentum completely changed when back-to-back 3's by Vincent Golson ignited a 15-7 run to bring the Toros to within four with 1:27 left.

Chico State (15-2, 8-1 CCAA) would go on to make all six free throws the rest of the way to preserve the win.

Golson higlighted the Cardinal and Gold by scoring 16 of his 25 points in the second half to run his streak of scoring more than 15 points in a game to nine. Including last night's contest at Stanislaus State, Golson closed out the weekend scoring 50 points.

It was all the starters that carried the Toros throughout the game. Justin Sadler finished with 13 points while Mikey Hatfield and Dharion Tanner each had 10. Khalil Bedart-Ghani rounded out the starters with five.

The Toros combined for a 40 shooting percentile and had dropped nine 3-pointers.

CSUDH seemed unable to stop Jalen McFerren, who completed a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. All around, the Wildcats shot a sizzling 53 percent from the field and made 16 free throws.

Chico State had led for all but 22 seconds in the game. The Toros had got as close as a bucket when Bedart-Ghani's jumper cut the score to 29-27 with 2:30 left in the first half.

The Toros return to the friendly confines of the Torodome to begin a season-most four-game homestand starting with Cal State Monterey Bay Friday at 7:30 p.m.
