Two Second-Half Goals the Difference in 2-0 Shutout Win Over Hawai'i-Hilo

Box Score NAMPA, Idaho -- Cal State Dominguez Hills juniors Emmanuel Corona and Joey Chica (pictured) each knocked home a second half goal while keeper Benito Gonzalez and the stingy Toro defense held Hawai'i-Hilo to just three shots on goal as CSUDH picked up its second-straight win with a 2-0 shutout of the Vulcans to conclude its trip to Idaho with a perfect 2-0 record.

CSUDH improves to 2-1-1 with the win as Chica scored his third goal in two matches, enjoying a 20-8 edge in shots including 7-3 on goal, with Gonzalez earning three saves in the shutout.

The Toros dominated play from the get-go, forcing the Vulcan keeper into making a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless in the first 45 minutes of play.

In the second half, however, CSUDH wasted little time in getting on the board after Israel Murguia sent a long ball above the packed Vulcan defense in the goalmouth, allowing Corona to get his head on the ball and nestle it into the net for a 1-nil lead just six minutes into the action.

That's where the score remained until 36 seconds were left in regulation when Chica notched his third goal in two games with a chip over the keeper that followed a long run up the middle.

The Toros also enjoyed a 4-2 advantage in corners and have scored twice in each of the last three games to contrast their opening day shutout loss.

CSUDH kicks off CCAA play this weekend at home, hosting Stanislaus State for a 7 pm first kick in Toro Stadium.
