Bresson, Donerson Lead Toros to Twinbill Sweep at Monterey Bay

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SEASIDE -- Junior righty Joe Bresson went 8.1 innings with five strikeouts as Cal State Dominguez Hills scored two runs late to take a come-from-behind 2-1 win over host Cal State Monterey Bay to kick off this morning's double-header in Seaside.  The Toros then erupted for 16 hits and 10 runs in a 10-3 nightcap win to sweep the twinbill led by Daryl Donerson's 3-for-4, 4RBI effort.

Senior slugger Brady Conlan earned two of CSUDH's four hits as the Toros snapped a four-game skid.

Game 1 – CSUDH 2, CSUMB 1
The series opener saw a pitching duel between Toro starter Joe Bresson and Otter Gabe Katich, who both threw eight innings. Bresson (2-2) though tried to close it out in the ninth with a 2-1 lead but ran into trouble with two doubles to put runners at second and third with one out. Anthony Cortez came in and managed to get the next two batters to pop up in the infield and a ground out to earn his third save of the season.
 
Bresson struck out five but also conceded the same number of hits along with two walks in 101 pitches. Katich, meanwhile, punched out six and allowed three hits.
 
The Otters got on the board first in the fifth inning, using back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners, and a ground out drove in CSUMB's lone run.
 
CSUDH evened the score in the seventh and had to do it with two outs. Lester Salcedo singled through the left side, took second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball. A fielding error hit by Kevin Lugo allowed Salcedo to score in the tying run.
 
The Toros scored in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth. Drew Kozain (2-1) relieved Katich but walked Nick Morelli to start the inning. The right fielder moved to third on Brady Conlan's single to right center and Miguel Castaneda took a pitch to center field deep enough for Morelli to score. The Otters got out of the inning with a double play. 

Game 2 – CSUDH 10, CSUMB 3
TyRay Gatewood (3-4) bounced back from a struggling outing against Cal State San Marcos last weekend. Against the Otters the right-hander allowed three runs on four hits and three walks in seven innings.
 
Gatewood also earned his third win of the season with help from the Toros bats, who recorded 16. Seven different Toro had multiple hits, including three from Donerson.. Leading 1-0 in the fourth inning, CSUDH broke through by adding four more runs. Parker Hokuf and Adrian Guzman reached base and Daryl Donerson drove both of the runners with a double to left center. After Brandon Polizzi's base hit put runners at the corners, a wild pitch brought home the third run and Castaneda's single down the right field line scored gave the Toros a 5-0 lead.
 
The Toros ran away with evening cap of the series with a four-run seventh inning. Salcedo and Tyler McLurg both singled to reach base and after a pitching change Guzman loaded the bases with a hit of his own. Donerson followed with a RBI single to center field and Polizzi drove in a run on a ground out. Morelli put the game out of reach with a two-run single to give the Toros a 9-3 lead.
 
Albert Flores relieved Gatewood in the eighth and went the rest of the way tossing a 2-hit shutout. He also struck out three.
