ROHNERT PARK — The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team couldn't cool down the Sonoma State bats Sunday. The Seawolves tallied three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to slug their way to a 8-1 and sweep the three-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series with the Toros.

The Toros fall to 4-7 overall, 0-3 in CCAA play as they return home to host NAIA member Westmont for a single game Tuesday at 2 p.m.

After seeing right-handers the first two games of the series, both teams decided to go with southpaws in the finale. Toro starter Luke Laurita (0-1) was off to a promising start until he got tagged with two unearned runs in the third inning. The junior went four innings surrendering three runs, one earned in the fourth while striking out five and allowing four hits on 82 pitches.

The Seawolves' Matt Hammonds, meanwhile, had to rely on defense to bail him out, especially in the first inning when Nick Morelli and Brady Conlan reached second and third, respectively, on a wild pitch. 

Hammonds (1-0) went on to throw five innings, striking out five of the 11 total batters. He did surrender six hits and a walk.

After Sonoma State put two runs on the board in the third, CSUDH responded by cutting the deficit in half in the fourth. Lester Salcedo led off with a single to short and scored all the from first when Miguel Castaneda's double was bobbled by the right fielder. 

Sonoma State would add on to its lead in the fifth when a RBI double followed by a two-run single gave the Seawolves a 5-1 lead. The game was put out of the Toros reach after a three-run shot to right center one inning later.

Brandon Polizzi had two of the Toros 9 hits and also had one of two extra base hit when he tripled in the third.
