Toros Fall Two to No. 7 in Latest NCAA Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS -- After splitting a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association contests on the road last weekend and moving out of the top spot in the league standings for the first time this year, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team fell two spots to No. 7 in the second of four NCAA regional polls, it was announced by the NCAA.

The top four spots remained unchanged with Alaska Anchorage staying at No. 1, followed by UC San Diego, Azusa Pacific and Cal Baptist.

Academy of Art jumped one spot to No. 5, while Cal State East Bay also moved up a spot to No. 6 after a buzzer-beating bank shot proved the difference in a thrilling 59-57 win over the Toros last Friday.

Montana State Billings jumped two spots to No. 8, with Western Washington and Point Loma on the outside looking in at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively, as the top 8 schools in the West Region qualify for the NCAA postseason, beginning the week of March 7 at a site to be announced.  T
he West Region consists of schools in the CCAA, Pacific West and Great Northwest Athletic Conferences.

CSUDH currently sits at 18-8 overall and 17-7 against regional opponents, and is tied for second place in the CCAA standings with UC San Diego, half a game behind Cal State East Bay.

Both the Toros and Tritons have two games remaining while the Pioneers have just one.  If all three teams win out and finish the season at 18-2 in CCAA play, the Toros would earn the top seed in the tournament by virtue of holding a .667 winning percentage against UCSD and CSUEB, with East Bay earning the No. 2 seed (.500) and UC San Diego earning the No. 3 seed (.333).

The Toros conclude their regular season on the road beginning tomorrow night at Chico State, facing the Wildcats for a 5:30 pm tip.
