Crosstown Rivals Spoil Toros Senior Day in 71-56 Loss to CSULA

CARSON -- All season long, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team has lived by the three in their wins.  Tonight, they misfired on 21 of 25 attempts from downtown, and the result was predictable in a 71-56 loss to crosstown rival Cal State LA, spoiling Senior Night festivities in which CSUDH honored four seniors playing in their final game in the Torodome.

Despite a team-high 20 points from Justin Sadler, the loss puts a dent in the Toros' CCAA postseason aspirations as they fall to 10-14, 4-12 CCAA with just four games left in the regular season and two full games behind 8th-place Cal State LA, which swept the regular season series from CSUDH.

After falling to the Golden Eagles just 11 days ago, the Toros looked to send their seniors out with a win after taking a 9-2 lead just five minutes into the game.

CSULA, however, outscored the Toros 9-2 to knot the game at 11 five minutes later, before outscoring the hosts 16-10 the rest of the half to take a 27-21 lead into the break.

The visitors kept their foot on the proverbial pedal in the second half, racing to a 36-26 lead just three minutes in.

A Sadler bucket cut CSULA's lead to just six at 38-32 with 14:16 left, but a 17-5 run over the next seven minutes gave the Golden Eagles a sizeable lead at 55-37, where the lead hovered over the next four minutes.

A spirited run led by a pair of Shaquille Hunter triples gave the Toros hope down just 60-49, but a 6-0 CSULA run all but put an end to any Toro hopes of a comeback en route to the 15-point win.

Vincent Golson added 15 points in the loss while Sadler added 10 boards to give him his seventh double-double of the year.

Prior to the contest, CSUDH honored four seniors playing in their final game in the Torodome in Ivan Dooley, Hunter, Darius Butler and Brandon Woods.
