Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Toros Nearly Pull Upset Victory at No. 20 UC San Diego

LA JOLLA – Less than 72 hours after being blown out at Cal State LA, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team turned it all around and nearly pulled an upset against 20th-ranked UC San Diego at RIMAC Arena Monday.

The Toros erased a 12-point deficit at halftime to tying it at 75 with 22 seconds left but a 3-point shot from reigning CCAA Freshman of the Year Chris Hansen enabled the Tritons to sneak by the Cardinal and Gold 78-75.

It was all the starters that did the scoring. Junior Khalil Bedart-Ghani scored a season-high 21 points as well as making seven free throws. He also had six rebounds and four assists. Justin Sadler finished with 17 points, Vincent Golson and Dharion Tanner each had 16 and Marquis Godfrey scored five.

CSUDH (5-4, 1-2 CCAA) made a complete turnaround in terms of shooting since recording 28 percent at the Golden Eagles Friday. The Toros compiled a 51-shooting percentile against the Tritons.

The Toros had also won the rebounding column 31-25. Godfrey, like Bedart-Ghani, finished with a team-most six rebounds.

UC San Diego (9-2, 4-0 CCAA) kept its perfect conference record intact with the aid of 3-point shooting as the Tritons hit 13. Hansen led both teams with 24 points.

The Tritons shot 53.6 percent from the field.

After UCSD got on the board first, the Toros got into a momentum that gave them their only lead. They led by as many as nine points midway through the first half. The Tritons would ignite a run and a 3-pointer by Scott Everman would knot it up at 27 apiece.

Adam Klie would hit the Tritons seventh 3-pointer at the buzzer to take a 44-32 lead at halftime.

The Toros finished the period shooting 42 percent from the field while the host shot 63.

UCSD would have built its largest lead at 13 early into the second half. The Toros had brought the deficit to four several times and tied it at 75 points apiece on Bedart-Ghani's dunk and Golson's layup.

Following Christmas break, the Toros wrap up the brief road trip at Cal State San Marcos December 28. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
