LOS ANGELES —Vincent Golson scored 19 points and dished out four but it was a cold shooting night for the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team as crosstown rival Cal State LA handed the Toros an 86-60 loss in the Eagles Nest Friday night.
The Toros couldn't get any shots to drop in the bucket as they went 28.1 percent from the field and 2-for-17 from 3-point range. Golson made his first nine of 11 attempts on the free throw line.
Khalil Bedart-Ghani had 13 points and six rebounds while Justin Sadler contributed all of his 11 points in the second half and added a dozen boards to complete a double-double.
CSULA (6-5, 2-1 CCAA), on the other hand, shot 47.4 percent but made 14 buckets from beyond the arc. Roderick Evans-Taylor exceeded his average of 10 points per game by scoring 16.
The Golden Eagles hit the first two 3-point baskets to start the contest off only for the Toros to come back and take a 7-6 lead behind Golson's four points and Bedart-Ghani's three. It was the only time the Cardinal and Gold were up front in the first half.
CSULA took control of the half by going on a 12-3 run in the span of 5:30. The Golden Eagles went into the break up 36-23, the largest deficit in the half.
Before going into the holiday break, the Toros will make a quick visit to No. 20 UC San Diego Monday with an extremely rare 4 p.m. tipoff.
