Men's Basketball Never Trails En Route to Win Over Sheppard in Vanguard's Thanksgiving Classic

COSTA MESA – Deondre Otis scored 19 points, Kahlil Bedart-Ghani had 13 to go along with his six assists and five rebounds, and the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team never trailed in its 75-67 win over Sheppard University (CA) in Vanguard University's Thanksgiving Classic Friday afternoon.
 
In a game that appeared close on paper, the one slight difference in the box score was free throws and rebounding.
 
The Toros made 20 of their 27 free throw attempts while Sheppard went 14-for-18.
 
CSUDH finished the day shooting 48 percent from the field, Sheppard 47 percent.
 
Khaliq Ghani grabbed seven of the Toros 32 rebounds to lead the individual column.
 
Although Sheppard trailed by as many as seven, it did catch up to the Toros and even the score at 20 apiece with 9:15 remaining. The combination of Dharion Tanner, the Ghani brothers and Justin Sadler built an 8-0 that allowed the Toros retake the lead and never look back.
 
The Toros led by as many as 21 five minutes into the second half.
 
CSUDH returns to the campus of Vanguard one more time to play the NAIA's San Diego Christian. Tipoff is Saturday at 2 p.m.
