No. 9 Cal Baptist Runs Away in Second Half in 93-79 Win

RIVERSIDE -- Senior Vincent Golson led Cal State Dominguez Hills with 20 points as the team shot 47.5 percent from the field and boasted three players with at least 10 points scored, but host and 9th-ranked Cal Baptist turned a four-point halftime lead into 10 as the Lancers remained unbeaten with a 93-79 win over the Toros.

CBU, however, hit 26 of 28 attempts from the free throw line that included a perfect 7 for 7 in the final minutes of the contest to secure the win.

Down 16-12 early, Golson converted three free throws to cut CSUDH's deficit to one, eventually knotting the contest at 18-18 on a Golson triple.

CBU, however, took the lead and stretched it to its largest lead at 38-28 with 3:55 left in the first half before a Jonathan Nichols bucket and two Golson free throws brought the Cardinal and Gold to 42-38 entering the break.

Golson continued his hot hand after intermission, opening the second half with a triple.

The hosts, however, again replied, going on an 8-0 run, pushing their advantage to 21 points with 9:27 left in the game.

The Toros whittled their deficit to 13 on a Justin Sadler layup seven minutes later, but it was too little, too late in the 14-point setback.

Khalil Bedart-Ghani added 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, with Sadler following last night's 23-point performance with 14, with Nichols chipping in nine in the loss.

The Lancers went to the line just six more times than the Toros, but wound up with 11 more points from the charity stripe as CSUDH missed seven of its 22 attempts.

CSUDH will travel to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for its final exhibition contest on Thursday, before a non-conference contest at Stanislaus State two days later.
