No. 20 Men's Soccer Can't Respond to Early Goal by No. 13 Golden Eagles

Box Score LOS ANGELES – Facing their crosstown rival for the second time in 11 days, the 20^th-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills couldn't respond to a goal early in the match as No. 13 Cal State LA shut down the Toros 2-0 at Jesse Owens Track in CCAA play Wednesday night.

The Toros (7-3-1, 4-1-0 CCAA) are handed their first conference loss while Golden Eagles (6-1-3, 4-1-0) have swept the Cardinal and Gold.

The Golden Eagles took advantage of a foul against the Toros with a free kick outside the box 3:40 into the match. Ihsan Kalkan, who scored one of the goals in the Golden Eagles 3-0 win over the Toros at StubHub Field #3 in the last meeting, took an uncontested free kick to the far left side of the goal.

After a quiet first half, the Toros had several close chances to evening the score. Bruno Montini had the best chance when in the 60^th minute he took a shot inside the box only to be stopped brilliantly by a diving Steven Barrera.

Another chance came 10 minutes later, Angel Ayala brought the ball to the top of the box and chipped a shot just missing the crossbar.

The Golden Eagles insurance goal came in the 82^nd minute. Shahin Hemat got the ball away from the Toro defense and it found the foot of Steven Eberle, who fired a bullet from the left side of the box to the far corner.

CSUDH edged its rivals in shots 10-9 overall but the Eagles had eight of those on goal. Chase Gentry had made only six saves while Barrera had three.

The Toros will make the long trek across the state to continue CCAA play at Chico State Sunday. Kickoff is set for 11:30 a.m.
