Sonoma State Cruises to 68-48 Win Over Toros

ROHNERT PARK -- Host Sonoma State shot a sizzling 54.2% from the field en route to a 13-point edge in the first half before cruising to a 68-48 win over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills tonight in the Den, handing the Toros their fourth-straight loss.

Darius Butler led the Toros with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor as CSUDH falls to 7-8 overall, and 1-6 in CCAA play.

The Seawolves raced to a commanding lead in the opening 20 minutes of play behind eight points each by David Ahern and Nat Molony-Benjamin, scoring the game's first six points while taking its first double-figure lead of the night exactly midway through the first session.

CSUDH cuts its deficit to just six points after a pair of Justin Sadler buckets make the game 23-17 with 6:43 left before intermission, but Sonoma State scored the half's final two buckets to give them the 13-point lead.

SSU's lead hovered around the 10-point mark, before ballooning to a then game-high 18 points with 7:32 left.  The game then got away from the Toros completely as the Seawolves ran their cushion into the 20-point realm down the stretch before settling for the 20-point victory.

Sadler chipped in 12 points and Shaquille Hunter 10 in the loss as the Seawolves capitalized off 16 Toro turnovers with 19 points.

The Seawolves bench also played a key role, outscoring the Toro reserves by a 25-0 count.

The Toros return home next weekend, but won't find their road any easier as Humboldt State and Cal Poly Pomona visit the Torodome as two of the top three schools in the league and NCAA West Region.
