Offense Gets on Track in 11-0 Win Over Sierra Nevada

CARSON -- Hosting new NAIA member Sierra Nevada on a hot Sunday afternoon at Toro Stadium, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team scored early and often against an Eagle team that suited up just 12 players, and the result was a predictable 11-0 decision in favor of the Cardinal and Gold, led by Ida Eriksson's hat trick, the first such accomplishment since former Toro All-American Jessica Murphy lit up San Francisco State for five scores in 2011.

Eriksson have may knocked in three of the 11 goals this afternoon but she got two of them with help from fellow Sweden native Louise Kallin, who also found the back of the net in the 15th minute.

Even though they were 10 hours from each others hometown, Eriksson (Kramfors) and Kallin (Halmstad) both cannot recall playing against each other but they may have crossed before coming into the United States.

"Maybe. We were in a soccer camp together but we never really knew each other," Kallin said.

Even though the Toros pick up the first win of the season, head coach Aileen Nasypany felt her team still needed work.

"With 20 new players to the roster this fall, the team is still working on building connections on the field," she said. "Today's focus was to continue our efforts to link the ball in our possession style soccer and execute when the chances arose."

From a player standpoint, Eriksson felt the match with the Eagles was needed as they prepare for two matches in Denver starting with Regis University Friday at 5 p.m. PT.

"It was a confidence booster. We didn't play well the last match and I think this one was good to have going into Colorado," Eriksson said.

The Toros (1-1) also saw goals from Naomi Willey, Kylee Patterson, Theresa Butcher, Elizabeth Nunez, Megan Guzman, Jessica Garcia and Mikayla Martig.

Eriksson scored all the goals the Toros needed within the first nine minutes. She received a pass from Louise Kallin from midfield, dribble to the left side and fired a shot to the upper right corner to break the ice.

After a handball setup a free kick on the right side edge of the penalty line, Kendra Serrano chipped a cross beautifully to Eriksson who headed in the second goal in the ninth minute. Kallin would help Eriksson complete the hat trick five minutes into the second half.

CSUDH went into the break leading the Eagles 4-0 and had outshot them 27-1. At the end of the final whistle the Toros racked up a total of 47 shots.

After making seven saves in her Toro debut in the loss against Point Loma Thursday, Alexia Flippen had a quiet Sunday afternoon and had turned the goalkeeping duty to Elisa Martin in the second half..
