Seven Unlucky in 7-0 Loss at Chico State to Begin CCAA Series

Box Score CHICO -- Visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills managed just six singles on the night as host Chico State rolled to a 7-0 shutout win over the Toros to kick off the four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series.

Winston Lavendier suffered the loss after allowing six hits and four earned runs as the Toros dipped below .500 overall, now sitting at 17-18 and 11-14 CCAA.

The Wildcats and Toros were scoreless after 2 and a half innings, before the hosts plated three on back-to-back-to-back RBI baseknocks.

CSUC added two more runs two innings later, and two more in the sixth to close the scoring.

The Toros enjoyed their best chance to get on the board in the ninth after one-out pinch-hit singles by Kevin Lugo and Jesse Oropeza, but Wildcat reliever Robert Engels induced a groundout and fanned the final batter he faced looking to preserve the shutout for CSUC starter Luke Barker, who went 8.0 with four strikeouts.

The two teams continue their four-game set tomorrow morning, with first pitch of game one's twinbill set for 12 noon.
