Overtime Kind to Toros in 69-64 Decision Over Sonoma State

CARSON -- Senior Darnell Martin scored a game-high 20 points that included six in overtime in leading Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 69-64 overtime win over visiting Sonoma State, giving the Toros a regular season series sweep over the Seawolves.

CSUDH improves to 7-20, 3-18 CCAA with the win.

"I was really proud of our ability to close the game out tonight, making shots and free throws when we needed to and making defensive stops when it mattered most," begins CSUDH interim head coach Steve Becker.

"DJ and Emmett Duvall were forces tonight, and as usual, Justin Sadler rebounded well.

"We look forward to competing tomorrow and sending our seniors out on a high note!"

The teams played close to each other early, with CSUDH advancing to a slim 5-point lead early.  The Seawolves regrouped, however, taking a slim 25-24 lead into the break.

After intermission, the similar teams forged 8 ties in the final 20 minutes of regulation, with Ivan Dooley's 3-point attempt at the buzzer going just long to send the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Martin took over with a layup to open the scoring, followed by a two-handed jam off a Duvall assist.

That grounded the Seawolves, who never led in OT, en route to the 69-64 final.

Duvall added 15 points and Dooley 13, with Sadler picking up eight boards to lead the team and tie for game-high honors.

At halftime, the 10 sports honored selected CSUDH faculty members for their continued dedication and support of the athletics program.
