Miscues Costly in 72-58 Loss at UC San Diego

LA JOLLA -- Senior Darnell Martin enjoyed a solid effort of 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor, the Cal State Dominguez Hills turned the ball over eight more times en route to a 72-58 loss at UC San Diego tonight.

The Toros fall to 6-19, 2-17 CCAA.

The Tritons raced out to a 29-20 first-half lead as the hosts drained nearly 50% of their shots behind Adam Klie's eight points.

The lead grew to as much as 12 early after intermission, until a Tyler Payne triple brought down to 33-25 two possessions later.

UCSD, however, behind solid 3-point shooting, pushed the edge back up to 14.

The Toros got as close as eight on the last of two Shaquille Hunter free throws, but it was too little, too late as the Tritons used a 5-0 run to close the game.

Hunter finished with nine and Darius Butler eight in the loss, with Justin Sadler tying for game-high honors with seven boards.

The Toros' roadtrip doesn't get much easier tomorrow night as they travel to Pomona to battle perennial power Cal Poly Pomona, set for a 7:30 pm first tip.
