Valiant Effort Comes Up Short in 74-69 OT Loss to CS Monterey Bay

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills sophomore Justin Sadler tied for game-high honors with 20 points while also pulling down five rebounds, but visiting Cal State Monterey Bay outscored the Toros 15-10 in the first and only overtime period to take a 74-69 win tonight in Carson.

"Tonight was a hard-fought battle and I am extremely proud of how hard we competed tonight," begins CSUDH interim head coach Steve Becker.

"I thought we really shared the ball at a high level tonight as our 22 assists to 13 turnovers gave us a great opportunity to win in regulation, but we ran out of gas in overtime and they made their free throws."

It was a back and forth first half that featured five ties and four lead changes, with the Toros trailing by two at the break.

The second half was more of the same with neither team leading by more than seven by points when the Otters led 49–42 at 11:57 mark. From then on the hosts went on a 16-10 run to end regulation, sending the game into overtime.

Martin again enjoyed a herculean effort of 14 points and 13 boards, connecting for 7-of-13 from the floor.

The Toros shot 44.6% from the floor and a solid 75% from the foul line, but they were outrebounded by seven in the heart-breaker.

CSUDH looks to get back on the winning track tomorrow night, hosting Cal State East Bay on "Think Pink" night.
