No. 11 UC San Diego Lives Up to National Ranking in 73-60 Win Over Toros

CARSON -- Entering tonight's action with a No. 11 national ranking, UC San Diego drained 53.8% of its attempts from the floor and turned a 9-point halftime edge into an eventual 73-60 win over host Cal State Dominguez Hills in a key California Collegiate Athletic Association tilt.

Ivan Dooley led the Toros with 14 points as CSUDH falls to 6-4 overall, and 0-2 in CCAA play.

The visitors got off to a hot start, hitting 55.2% of their shots to take an 8-point lead at the break behind Aleks Lipovic's 12 points.

A Justin Sadler bucket mid-way through the period brought the Toros to within a point at 25-24, but the Tritons went on a 14-7 run the rest of the half to take a 39-31 lead into the break despite Dooley's 10 and Sadler's eight points.

In the second half, the Tritons continued to feel it, nailing 52.2% of their attempts from the floor to maintain their double-figure lead midway through the period.

A Vincent Golson bucket at the 9:35 mark cut CSUDH's deficit to single digits at 58-49, with a Darius Butler bucket bringing the Toros to within 62-56 four minutes later, but UCSD scored the next five points to provide a much-needed cushion en route to the 13-point win.

Butler finished with 13 points and Sadler with 11 points and 10 boards to give him the game's lone double-double, but a 35.7% second-half shooting effort proved costly in the loss.

CSUDH continues CCAA hosting duties on Saturday as perennial power CS San Bernardino visits Carson, with first tip set for 7:30 pm.
