RIVERSIDE -- Monay Lee had 11 points and 14 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, Breanne Garcia added 17 points, but the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team dropped a 66-59 decision to Point Loma at the CBU Thanksgiving Classic Friday afternoon.
It was the second meeting in four games between the two schools, with the undefeated Sea Lions (5-0) escaping with an overtime win over the Toros (3-5) in Pomona.
While the Toros and Sea Lions were evenly matched in field goals, 3-point baskets and rebounds, Point Loma did have the advantage in free throws, going 14-for-19. CSUDH went 6-for-9 on the line.
The Sea Lions led by as many as seven on two different occasions in the first half, but the Toros managed to climb back in the remaining six minutes to bring it back within one. Point Loma went into intermission with an 37-35 lead.
CSUDH led by as many as three points when Monay Lee's jumper with 3:11 remaining in the third quarter, but Point Loma retook the lead and never looked back in the fourth quarter.Â
The Toros did bring the deficit to within one (58-57) when Garcia hit a 3-pointer at the 4:46 mark. However, six free throws by the Sea Lions allowed them to regain the seven-point lead.
The non-conference schedule comes to a close Saturday when the Toros take on the host Lancers at 2 p.m.
