No. 4 Cal Baptist Stifles Toros in 81-53 Victory

RIVERSIDE -- Fourth-ranked and host Cal Baptist showed why it's one of the best Division II teams in the nation as it held the normally efficient Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros to under 30 percent shooting from the floor en route to a convincing 81-53 decision, running the Lancers to a perfect 6-0 this season.

Femi Hamilton led the Toros with 12 points and four steals, but it wasn't nearly enough as CSUDH dropped its second-straight decision in falling to 3-6 on the year.

The Toros played the host Lancers close through the first two quarters of play, trailing 32-29 after hooting 37% from the floor compared to 40% for CBU.  Hamilton led her squad with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting with a pair of steals to set up what looked like a competitive final two quarters.

In the third, however, the Lancers took over in outscoring the Cardinal and Gold 27-13 as CSUDH shot just 22.2% in the second half, including missing on all 11 attempts from downtown.  No Toro scored over six points in the second half while the CBU duo of Cassidy Mihalko with 17 and Darsha Burnside with 12 combined to pour in more points than the entire Toro squad.

The lone bright spot for the Toros came at the charity stripe as the visitors hit 10-of-11 in the loss.

CSUDH resumes California Collegiate Athletic Association play with a road game at Cal Poly Pomona on Wednesday, set for a 5:30 pm first tip.
