Sadler's Double-Double Pushes Toros Past SDCC at Vanguard's Thanksgiving Classic

COSTA MESA -- Junior forward Justin Sadler tallied his second double-double of the year to lead the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros to a hard-fought 66-62 win over San Diego Christian College at the VU Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by Vanguard University.

With their second-straight win, the Toros improve to 3-2 on the new season after turning a 5-point deficit at the half into a four-point win.

The Toros shot 40.7% from the floor while holding the Hawks to just 35.8%, with SDCC giving points away at the line while missing five of its 14 attempts.

CSUDH started quickly, taking a 10-4 lead on a Shaquille Hunter 3-pointer with just under four minutes elapsed before the Hawks forged the second of six ties at 14-14 before outscoring the Toros 23-18 the rest of the way en route to a 37-32 lead.

SDCC maintained its five-point lead early in the second half, only to have three free throws by Sadler, one by Darius Butler and a Jonathan Nichols layup in the paint giving the Toros a 41-40 lead at the 13:23 mark.

The Hawks answered with an 8-1 run over the next two minutes to regain momentum until a Butler layup in the paint regained the lead for CSUDH with just 4:46 left in regulation.

The teams exchanged leads twice on ensuing possessions and found themselves tied at 60-all with 1:43 remaining, until Sadler took over with a bucket on an assist through traffic by Vincent Golson, and four-consecutive free throws to stake the Toros to a 66-60 lead, with the scoring completed on a SDCC bucket as the horn sounded.

Hunter tied Sadler with 17 points to lead the Cardinal and Gold, with Ivan Dooley chipping in 10 to give CSUDH a trio of double-figure scorers.

Sadler's 12 boards topped all rebounders as the Toros pulled down three more than their opponents, with Dooley's three blocks accounting for 60% of the team's total.

CSUDH continues the Thanksgiving Classic tomorrow, taking on Bethesda College for a 1:30 pm first tip.
